Top Destinations for the Winter Season: The Radiator, the Laptop and the Laundry
When the sun withdraws, we are forced to improvise. Sunbeam Voyages is pleased to present our Winter Destinations, a collection of places that offer warmth, comfort and the faint sense of having been somewhere.
The Radiator Shelf
Our flagship winter destination. The Radiator Shelf provides a constant, gentle heat and a view of the room that is clear, uninterrupted, and slightly above everything. Travellers report an immediate sense of arrival. We recommend a stay of at least four hours, or until one side of your body is too warm, at which point you may flip.
The Laptop
The Laptop is a rare, mobile destination, available only when a human is working. It offers a warm base, a firm surface, and a keyboard that responds to the pressure of a paw in unexpected ways. Be warned: the Laptop is occupied by the human. You may need to sit on the human’s hands to reach it.
The Freshly Laundered Pile
Tumble dried and still warm, the Laundry offers a deeply soft landing, a faint smell of lavender, and the pleasure of making a person start again. The Laundry is a seasonal destination, and is most rewarding when the pile is newly folded.
The Airing Cupboard
The Airing Cupboard is a quiet and secluded retreat, often reached by pushing through a door that was shut. It is dark, dry and hot. Travellers say it is the closest they have come to being inside a loaf.
Practical information
- Best time to visit: the hour before the human wakes.
- Getting there: by leaping, then settling.
- What to bring: yourself, and an air of belonging.
- What to leave: a thin layer of fur, as a courtesy.
Chief Navigator’s note
Marmalade Solstice has asked us to remind travellers that none of these is the sun. The sun is better. We are, however, in the business of managing expectations, and the expectation is that the Radiator Shelf will do.
Booking
Reserve your seat on the radiator by sitting there and refusing to move. Confirmation is immediate.
