Itinerary: One Day, Seven Patches of Light

Our most popular package is the One Day Tour, a carefully planned route through the home that follows the sun from morning to night. It requires little effort and a high level of commitment.

7 AM: the kitchen windowsill

Begin at the east window. The light is thin and pink, like a blanket of lukewarm milk. Take your position with your back to the room and your face to the glass. Remain until the first mug is put down. Then leave.

9 AM: the hallway rug

The sun enters the hall at an angle, producing a long strip of gold across the rug. Lie down in the middle. Roll once. Stretch fully. This is the Morning Strip, and it is the only place in the house where you can be completely horizontal and entirely admired.

11 AM: the bedroom pillow

Late morning is the time to visit the bed. It is empty, unmade, and still warm. Settle in the middle of the human’s pillow, and fall asleep in a manner that suggests you have lived here all your life.

1 PM: the lounge sofa

The sofa lies in the main light of the day. Lie along the arm, with one leg dangling. If a human sits down, move up. If a human stays, lean. A human is a heat source with opinions.

2 PM: the living room window

At 2 PM, as the name of our company suggests, the light lands in a rectangle on the living room carpet. This is the highlight of the tour. Please remain still for ninety minutes. There is no commentary. The experience speaks for itself.

5 PM: the conservatory floor

The light is low and long. Visit the glass room. Lie on the tiles, which have stored the heat of the afternoon. Sigh. A good traveller sighs.

8 PM: the lamp

When the sun has gone, there is the lamp. It is not the same, but it is warm. Sit beside it and tell yourself it is the sun.

Tour notes

  • Total distance travelled: eleven metres.
  • Number of naps: nine.
  • Souvenirs: a layer of hair on every surface.

Our guides will meet you at the start. They will not be on time. They will be warm.
